The James Reserve is home to over 120 species of birds. Many species are permanent residents and nest at the reserve while others migrate through annually. Violet-green swallows provide entertaining observations of hunting on the wing and nocturnal wanderings turn up sightings of Great Horned and Western Screech owls. We have captured many species on our motion-sensitive cameras as well as around the reserve and surrounding habitats. Though we have not photographed them all, this slide show gives some representation of the diversity of bird life found at the James.
