When deciding to donate to the James Reserve, you might want to just give a general donation or you might want to pick from the list below of various needs we have here at the James. In either case, your generosity towards the James is deeply appreciated. If you do choose to donate to a specific need, just indicate so on your check or in the appropriate place in the on-line donation page.
James Reserve Wish List
Tuning Grace James’ piano: Grace enjoyed playing the piano and it is still a part of the Lolomi Lodge legacy but is in need of tuning and some repairs. Estimated cost of tuning and repairs is around $300.
Propane heaters: The nights can get cold in the San Jacinto Mountains and even the days in the winter. To keep our buildings warm we use a combination of wood stoves and propane wall heaters. In our main lodge, Trailfinders, the two propane heaters we have are showing their age. With today’s more efficient heaters, we could keep the building warm and reduce our gas use to heat the lodge. Estimate cost is $400 each.
Pickup truck: To run a reserve like the James, good vehicle transportation, four wheel drive trucks, is essential. The minimal vehicle needs are a “workhorse” for plowing the roads and moving heavy material and a “gopher” suited for highway travel. We have our workhorse in the form of a 2001 Ford F350, which is adequate for our needs. Our gopher vehicle is a 30 year old Datsun pickup with over 150,000 miles and is showing its age! To replace this vehicle with a newer pickup truck will cost around $15,000. Donations toward this wish would help retire this vehicle and contribute to safer travel.
- Tools and office equipment: As we all know, tools and equipment, when they get used, wear out. Over the years after active use keeping the James at tip-top shape, many of our hand and electric tools and office equipment are in need of replacement. Donations dedicated to this “wish” would be used to buy such things as a new table saw ($200-300), new drill and screw driver ($200), new color printer for the office ($250), and various other tools as needed ($20-80).
